Taxter & Spengemann is pleased to present Community Action Center, a 69-minute sociosexual video by A.K. Burns and A.L. Steiner which incorporates the erotics of a community where the personal is not only political, but sexual. This project was heavily inspired by porn-romance-liberation films, such as works by Fred Halsted, Jack Smith, James Bidgood, Joe Gage and Wakefield Poole, which served as distinct portraits of the urban inhabitants, landscapes and the body politic of a particular time and place. Community Action Center is a unique contemporary womyn-centric composition that serves as both an ode and a hole-filler.

Galerie Eva Presenhuber is pleased to present Songs without Words, an exhibition of new work by the American artist collective Tim Rollins and K.O.S..
The artist collective Tim Rollins and K.O.S. describes their own way of working with a quotation from Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy: “The thoughts which are expressed to me by music that I love are not too indefinite to be put into words, but on the contrary, too definite. And so I find, in every effort to express such thoughts, that something is right, but at the same time, that something is lacking in all of them.” Whereas Mendelssohn-Bartholdy uses music as a means of expression, Tim Rollins and K.O.S. have developed a method that is all their own.

Kunstverein will celebrate its first anniversary with a special commission by Nedko Solakov entitled High Level Margins With A Catalogue.
Hailing from Sofia as one of Bulgaria’s finest, Nedko Solakov’s artistic practice is best described as a hurricane of wittily and often with humor constructed stories that poetically, politically and institutionally criticize their surroundings. Solakov is mostly known for his (tiny) handwritten comments that are often displayed in spaces, which at first appear to be empty. Playing with the viewer’s expectations is a particular goal in Solakov’s work in which the viewer is often obligated to knee, bend or perform other movements to be able to read the comments up close.

'Nothing is Forever' - it's more of a statement than a title, and a curious one for a group exhibition of wall drawings and paintings that inaugurates a very permanent architectural extension to the South London Gallery. One does not immediately associate this rain-on-your-parade, realist sensibility with unveilings. It does, however, perfectly corral the temporary interventions of a predominantly British bunch of artists and underline the fact that however loved and well-respected the gallery, things had to change for it to become the major art centre it undoubtably now is.

An interior earth sculpture. 250 cubic yards of earth (197 cubic meters) 3,600 square feet of floor space (335 square meters) 22 inch depth of material (56 centimeters) Total weight of sculpture: 280,000 lbs. (127,300 kilos) The New York Earth Room, 1977, is the third Earth Room sculpture executed by the artist, the first being in Munich, Germany in 1968. The second was installed at the Hessisches Landesmuseum in Darmstadt, Germany in 1974. The first two works no longer exist. The New York Earth Room has been on long-term view to the public since 1980. This work was commissioned and is maintained by Dia Art Foundation.

Team is pleased to announce our first solo presentation of the work of Spanish artist Santiago Sierra. The exhibition, entitled Los Penetrados. Los Penetrados (The Penetrated) is a 45-minute film in eight acts. The film was originally shot on October 12 2008, Día de la Raza, or the Day of the Race, which is the Spanish holiday commemorating Columbus’ discovery of the Americas. The film features a mirrored set with ten geometrically arranged blankets positioned on the floor, on which the various possible combinations of male and female and black and white, engage in anal penetration. The faces of the hired participants are digitally removed, rendering them as dehumanized, modular workers in Sierra’s imposed economy. The eight acts are divided into the following permutations: white man/white woman, white man/white man, white man/black woman, white man/black man, black man/black woman, black man/black man, black man/white woman, black man/white man.

Lisson Gallery is proud to present Solo Quintet (1897-1979), a new exhibition by Tim Lee. Working with photography, video, text and sculpture, Lee continues to explore his interest in reconstructing and re-imagining seminal moments in art history and popular culture. Often treading the line of the absurd, Lee frequently uses humour as a vehicle to decode specific moments in the lives of various individuals. Drawn from disparate fields, these key figures include Glenn Gould, Buster Keaton, Merce Cunningham, Stanley Kubrick and Neil Young.

The Swedish artist Nathalie Djurberg (*1978) is known above all for her animated films, which seem sweet and innocuous only at a first glance. In her art, Djurberg treats themes such as obsession, power, pleasure, desire, and violence. Her first solo exhibition at a German institution presents her most recent work. Just as already in the case of her contribution to the 53rd Venice Biennial in 2009, with Snakes knows it's Yoga (2010) Nathalie Djurberg also enters into the exhibition space and, in addition to two films, augments her work with a sculptural ensemble. On more than forty wooden pedestals beneath Plexiglas hoods, we encounter both a multitude of clay figures bathed in variously-colored light and the masterfully inventive music of Hans Berg, which comes from one of the films.

White Columns is proud to present ACT UP New York: Activism, Art, and the AIDS Crisis, 1987–1993; a multi-faceted exhibition incorporating the ACT UP ORAL HISTORY PROJECT; and a new installation by fierce pussy.
Curated by Helen Molesworth and Claire Grace and organized by the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts and the Harvard Art Museums ACT UP New York: Activism, Art, and the AIDS Crisis, 1987–1993 was originally presented in fall 2009 at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University. In the introduction to that presentation Molesworth and Grace outlined the exhibition’s remit:
“The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) was pivotal for AIDS activism in New York City in the late 1980s. Tracing the history of the movement, this exhibition examines the printed graphics and other visual media created by artist collectives that populated it, including Gran Fury, Silence = Death Project, Gang, DIVA TV, and fierce pussy. The exhibition also premieres the ACT UP Oral History Project, a suite of over 100 video interviews with surviving members of ACT UP New York that offer a portal to a decisive moment in the history of the gay-rights movement, twentieth-century visual art, our nation’s discussion of universal healthcare, and the continuing HIV/AIDS epidemic.”
